 AUCA Public Art Program

AUCA Public Art Program

The purpose of AUCA Public Art Program is to bring together artists, artisans, designers and curators locally, regionally and internationally through a series of collaborative workshops, creative dialogue and ongoing exhibitions that will inform the designs and fabrication of several public art works at the new American University of Central Asia (AUCA) campus in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The AUCA Public Art Program aims to provide students, faculty and the general public a campus enriched with unique artworks that reflect, connect and integrate local, regional and international culture. The new building will provide a showcase for new work, through temporary and permanent installations, in indoor and outdoor spaces, throughout the main campus.

These projects will highlight the relationship between people and the environment, foster relationships between cultures and build on the artistic heritage of Central Asia. Several initial projects are already in development with local artists, including the design of the Theater curtain, signature furnishings, and graphics. It is hoped that these projects will provide opportunities for artists to engage with both the AUCA community through commissions, collaborations, teaching, lectures, workshops.
