The Spirit of the Landscape

"The artist's landscapes grasp such subtle changes in nature that perception of his photographs requires no the pragmatic modern mind but silence, which reveals the hidden spirit of a place.

Shailo's series of landscapes "Baytic Mountains" and "Issyk Kul Lake" occupy a special place in his work because he constantly revisits those topics. Among the most significant works in this series are the photographs "The Evening Cape", "In the Direction of Night", and "Baitic Valley". Silence dwells in these landscapes. Time mingles with space. The real beauty of nature is imprinted in the cycle "without the title". The presence of an elusive, irrational moment defines Shailo's urban and natural landscapes. Shailo's photographs are timeless.

The might be called "archaic", because they capture what had been seen hundreds of times, but not recognized. This spirits penetrates all of Shailo's work" - Marat Sarulu
